coffee, being a morning person & getting stuff done

I never was a morning person. I got up in the morning and would actually groan. The first thought on my mind was coffee, coffee, coffee. I used to ~growl~, yes growl, at my roommate or my mom sometimes if I really was in a bad mood.

So yeah, I was not a morning person.

Even sitting here writing this post I have a cup of coffee right next to me to “inspire” me. Shh, don’t tell Starbucks but I live on Dunkin’ coffee. When I can’t have coffee, I need Diet Coke. When I don’t have that, I just… can’t survive.

But how do I change that? One of my personal goals of 2018 is to drink less coffee and drink more water. Obviously, it hasn’t worked out for me that well buuuuut, I’m getting there. I still drink at least two cups a day. I’ve started carrying around my water bottle with me, my handy dandy VT water bottle that I love so dearly but neglect so hard.

But how do we become a morning person? How do people channel this energy they find at 8 a.m. and do work? I can barely complete a sentence before 10 a.m. And even then it’s hard!

I’ll share a secret. You wanna hear? Listen carefully.

Jesus Christ.

YES! Honestly, waking up and reading His Word will do wonders.

It will give you 10x more energy than any cups of coffee will do. Scripture will inspire you to live gracefully and successfully throughout the day.

“The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe.” -John 1:7

I didn’t mean for this to be a faith post, but here it is.

You’ll find yourself walking to class thinking about His Word. You’ll smile at a random stranger. You’ll hold the door for the annoying kid in your class. You’ll brighten someone’s day who’s not having the best day. Be that person. #SpreadTheEnergy that you got from reading scripture to other people.

“For the Lord God is a sun and shield: the Lord will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly. O Lord of hosts, blessed is the man that trusteth in thee.” -Psalms 84:11-12

After reading, you’ll feel more powerful and more energized to get stuff done. Don’t slouch. Take your feet down from the chair in front of you. Don’t pretend to be awake in class when you’re really “dead inside.” Sit up straight. Walk with confidence. His Word is that powerful and amazing, you can accomplish anything after a couple of verses.

I’m writing this with a cup of coffee in me and inspired after listening to two different podcasts. As soon as I drink coffee and read Scripture in the morning, even if it’s a verse or two, I feel instantly lifted and want to immediately start getting stuff done — all before 10 a.m.

So yeah, that’s how I get stuff done in the morning. It may be small, but it will help you in the long run.

“We will not hide them from their children, shewing to the generation to come [to] the praises of the Lord, and his strength, and the wonderful works that he hath done.” -Psalm 78:4
